Beverley Oda Minister of International Cooperation November 3, 2009 Re: Withdrawal of civil servants from corporate accountability conference Dear Ministers Day, Cannon, Raitt and Oda: On October 29, civil servants from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Natural Resources Canada and the Canadian International Development Agency suddenly withdrew their participation from a conference jointly organized by the Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability (CNCA) and the Mining Association of Canada (MAC), which is taking place today. The conference touched upon a range of issues related to the causes of the crisis, policy and regulatory remedies, governance of the international financial institutions, tax havens and unfettered private capital flows, an emerging debt crisis, alternatives to the renewal of the Doha trade round, and the respective roles of the United Nations and G20. A policy brief with clear recommendations for the government is forthcoming.   Read more ...
Il y a 14 years 10 months.   .   Des experts examinent ce qui manque dans la réponse à la crise préalablement à la rencontre du G8/G20 en 2010 Les 19 et 20 octobre dernier, l’Initiative d’Halifax coparrainait une conférence avec l’Institut Nord-Sud et l’Université d’Ottawa qui avait pour thème Que manque-t-il dans la réponse à la crise financière mondiale?  Cette conférence visait à engager le gouvernement canadien dans un dialogue avec des universitaires, des militants et des décideurs avant le Sommet du G8/G20 de l’an prochain. On y a abordé des sujets tels que les causes de la crise, les remèdes stratégiques et réglementaires, la gouvernance des institutions financières internationales, les paradis fiscaux et la mobilité absolue des capitaux privés, une crise de la dette en émergence, des solutions de rechange à la reprise du cycle de Doha et les rôles respectifs des Nations Unies et du G20.
